Teaching English to First Generational Learners

Mindsprings presents a workshop on

Differentiation strategies that work
by Usha Pandit

We live in a world of diversity and plurality. Therefore, monochrome teaching will do injustice to several sections of the student population. We have differences in children with special needs or coming from differing socio-cultural and economic backgrounds, or different learning styles. A high-quality curriculum for all learners needs teachers to use strategies to differentiate these varieties of learners. In this session, we look at the bell curve, Gardner’s multiple intelligences, and Bloom’s taxonomy of higher order thinking skills to understand needs. We look at types of differentiation: Content, process, product differentiation. You will be shown a practical demonstration of differentiated lessons. We then look at specific classroom strategies to see how differentiation can happen without being overwhelmed. In an equitable school, no child should be left behind.
